DAF 2800 Afghan International
The Tekno Middle East collection now has grown into a large and extensive collection. As an addition to this collection, we hereby announce a special model: the DAF 2800 from Afghan International.
From 1973 till 1976 the Dutch transport company Van Gend & Loos started an international transport company service together with the government of Afghanistan, named “Afghan International Transport Company”. A fixed regular service was maintained between the Eindhoven office of Van Gend & Loos and Kabul; more than 7000 km in distance.
Groupage transport was mainly carried out for amongst others, Philips, DAF and various machine manufacturers. The company was 51% of the Afghan government and 49% of Van Gend & Loos.
In the beginning, Van Gend & Loos staff were used, and later Afghan drivers and engineers were employed. The trucks were specially adapted for transport to the Middle East; the engine and tanks were adapted for rock and stone damage protection and the cabin had, amongst other things, a parking heater, air conditioning and drinking water tank. The trailers were equipped with an additional fuel tank with a capacity of 500 liters.
